Where the Southwest meets the South” is the inspiration behind SOL Southwest Kitchen & Tequila Bar, located just off Highway 17 in Mount Pleasant, only minutes from the Isle of Palms. The menu reflects a blend of bold Southwest flavors with Southern-influenced cooking and an emphasis on seasonal ingredients and items made fresh to order.
The spacious restaurant evokes a modern-day rustic Southwestern ranch. Large tables and booths line the dining area, while the reclaimed cotton mill bar is prominently featured. A lively outdoor seating area attracts both a happy hour crowd and families with young children.
“It’s a local favorite,” said owner David Clark, who described the atmosphere as “upscale casual.”
Readers of Mount Pleasant Magazine gave SOL high accolades, bestowing awards for Best Cocktail, Best Mexican, Best Tacos, second place for Best Restaurant Service and third place for Best Happy Hour.
Since opening three years ago, this locally owned and operated business has donated more than $33,000 to local nonprofits through its Kitchen Karma program.
“We always want to be part of the local community, and giving back is an important part of that,” Clark explained.
Here’s how it works: With every purchase of a featured menu item and cocktail of the month, SOL donates $1 to the Kitchen Karma charity of the month.
Diners flock to SOL’s Southwest Brunch, offered every Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“Our brunch is very popular, with endless mimosas and a separate menu,” Clark said.
Building on the success of the original location, SOL is now in Summerville, and a new location is slated to open this summer at 385 Meeting St. in downtown Charleston.
