The pride of Isle of Palms yesterday, today and always.

July 2025’s Pet of the Month: Poppy – Pup of personality

Posted by IOP Mag Leave a Comment

Meet Poppy, a 4-month-old golden retriever puppy who’s quickly stealing hearts around the island. Though she’s the newest addition to her family, Poppy’s playful energy and sweet personality have already made her a beloved member of the household.

Isle of Palms, SC's latest doggy addition, Poppy the Golden Retriever. Her ‘paw’-rents said Poppy approaches each day like a brand-new adventure; this rambunctious fluff ball is absolutely full of life. She especially lights up when she sees children and loves to greet all of them with tons of puppy kisses and tail wags.

If Poppy could have it her way, her perfect day would start with a hearty breakfast buffet—complete with plenty of ice cubes because they’re her favorite treat. After that, she’d go on a high-speed chase with her best friend Ruby to burn off the post-breakfast zoomies. Once her and Ruby take a long nap, Poppy would end the day with a relaxing golf cart ride to the beach with her family, where they’d throw all the sticks they could find for her.

Of course, with all that puppy enthusiasm, there are plenty of funny moments. One time she had the zoomies so hard she accidentally ran into a parked vehicle in the backyard! Luckily, Poppy bounced back quickly, ready for the next round. Her family loves her silly spirit, and they’re making sure Poppy is living her best life full of sunshine, sand and lots of love.

Another sweet thing about Poppy is that she shares the exact same birthday as her owner’s beloved soul dog, Emma, who recently passed. “What are the odds?” her mom Sophie said. She takes it as a sweet sign that Poppy was meant to join the family, and we couldn’t agree more.
