IOP Dog Stick Library fetches canine customers

Posted by IOP Mag Leave a Comment

There was a time when a dog’s main source of entertainment at the beach was chasing seagulls, but now they have a brand-new way to have fun. Thanks to the new Dog Stick Library on Isle of Palms, pups can enjoy endless games of fetch, all while letting the birds continue their beachside relaxation.

The Dog Stick Library is inspired by the popular Little Free Library book exchange boxes, but instead of novels, you’ll find a variety of sticks in this little nook. Dogs are invited to sniff through the collection and pick their favorite to borrow for a game of fetch. If your dog happens to fall in love with a particular stick, don’t worry, you can simply replace it with another that might not have captured their heart as much.

On the day we stopped by, my dog Russ was more than thrilled to see that someone had gone the extra mile. In addition to the usual collec-tion of sticks, the library featured an assortment of tennis balls and even a bag of treats. It’s not every day that we find such thoughtful new addi-tions to the island, but this is one that both dogs and their owners can appreciate. It’s amazing what a little extra effort can do to add a whole new element of fun to our community.

So how do you find this hidden gem? If you’re hanging around the IOP Marina, you’re already in the right neighborhood. From there, take a walk down the nearby residential streets, say hi to any fellow dog lovers and friendly neighbors that you pass along the way and keep your eyes peeled. If you’re still stuck, you can try reaching out to the family who brought this idea to life by mes-saging @CapersAndDeweesIOP on Instagram.

The Dog Stick Library is a small but thoughtful addition to the island, and it’s these kinds of creative proj-ects that make Isle of Palms such a great place for dog lovers. It’s a fun, unique spot that celebrates the simple joy of play. As much as we already love our dogs and the island, this is a great new way to make every visit to the beach a little more special for you and your furry friend.
