It’s a connector of the community, a celebration and a contributor in the fight to prevent child abuse in the Lowcountry. In the 27 years since it began, this Isle of Palms annual event has donated more than $1 million to organizations who protect our children. In 1992, following the aftermath of Hurricane Hugo, the Isle of Palms Connector was created to provide a second path on and off the island. With the completion of the bridge came the introduction of the Isle of Palms Connector 5K/10K Run and Walk for the Child — a charity race held on the first Saturday of October to raise money for the healing and prevention of child abuse in Charleston. The mission, said Race Chair Elizabeth Grantham, stemmed from the collaboration with the Isle of Palms Exchange Club, whose main mission is the prevention of child abuse. Such a cause spoke to the heart of the former elementary school principal. The Isle of Palms Connector Run Photos provided.
