The love for the island can be found in every story, on every page. As you flip through our digital version at www. ReadIOPmag.com and the print version, I think you will agree. Our editor, Denise K. James, said that with each issue, I find a story or two I hyper-focus on. I believe each member of our publishing family has their favorites as well. Brian Sherman, our managing editor, talked enthusiastically and often about his interview with Ricky Myatt, a retired Isle Of Palms postman. You can read the article on page 12. Bill Farley, one of our longtime contributors, couldn’t wait to tell his story about retired Stage Deli owner Steve Auerbach, who now lives in Wild Dunes. The article starts on page 18. I love the art of publishing which requires me to focus on the stories in a specific issue. But Denise is correct; I do hyper-focus on certain stories. In this issue, I had a keen interest in the articles on creating family memories, beginning on page 28. Before we could bring this article to you, we had to reach out to several Isle Of Palms vacation rental companies and ask them to contact their guests about being interviewed for the article. The families we interviewed provided us with heartfelt stories about their fond memories of vacations spent on Isle Of Palms. Denise probably would say that I also hyper-focused on the Facebook comments following the article on page 33. After we published our Winter/ Spring 2016-17 edition, we created a Facebook post that reached 187,382 people from around the country, and they spread a lot of love for the island through their comments.
