W hat better place to spend the Fourth of July than on the Isle of Palms beach? Come early and celebrate the whole day. Frolic in the waves, play beach games and show off your red, white and blue bathing suit. You can pack a cooler of snacks and sandwiches or enjoy a meal at one of the Isle of Palms restaurants, like Coconut Joe’s or Luke ‘n Ollie’s Pizzeria. To cool off, check out Ben & Jerry’s or Island Joe’s ice cream. As the sun goes down, relax in your beach chairs, catch the sunset and then be amazed at the length and quality of fireworks as the colorful show lights up the sky over the pier and the Atlantic Ocean. TIPS FORWATCHING FIREWORKS ON IOP • Arrive early in the day to find the best parking. • Parking is available for a fee at the Isle of Palms County Park, municipal parking lots and metered parking on Ocean Boulevard between 10th and 14th Avenues. • Parking is free on the public right-of-way in designated “beach parking” zones. • Sit far from the water because the tide will be rising all afternoon and evening. • At 6:30 p.m., the area of the beach between 21st Avenue and 3rd Sea Cabins will close for setup and firework preparation, so camp out beyond these points. • Take plenty of sunscreen, a beach umbrella, beach chairs and a cooler of water. • Restrooms are at the front beach area and at the County Park. • Individual launches of fireworks are not allowed. • Alcohol is not permitted on the beach. • Pick up your trash. • When leaving, be prepared to spend an hour in traffic. • Have fun!
