Isle Of Palms Magazine Spring/Summer 2019

Although it was a match made in heaven, we knew it was going to be a long road to recovery for her. She was 5 months old with a rough past and malnourishment. She was terrified by anything that moved or made noise. Being in new places scared her. Anything and everything made her shake to her bones. One of the many unforgettable moments was the first time we took Indi to the beach. We were so excited to share our favorite spot on Isle of Palms and to run around with her off leash. However, the overstimulation of sounds and movement scared Indi so much that she ran all the way from the edge of the water back to the car, crossing the ever-so-busy Palm Boulevard. I have never seen Thomas run so fast. Needless to say, it was a close call, and we realized quickly that she was going to need much more socialization and exposure to new places in order to build her confidence and feel comfortable. Fast-forward to the present, Indi is 11 months old, and her absolute favorite thing to do is run on the beach with her ball. It is incredible to see how much joy the beach brings her and to see how far she has come! When you see her in action playing on the beach, you can’t help but feel joyful as well. She’s such a goof! It might sound excessive, but we actually go to Isle of Palms every night for sunset, as long as we don’t have prior commitments. While we sit and relax, Indi either plays with her ball or lies next to us. We are very proud of how well-behaved, happy and silly she is, and we believe Isle of Palms has been the catalyst for most of her recovery. Keep an eye out next time you’re on Isle of Palms at sunset – you might just spot us! We may have rescued Indi, but she rescues us every day. She has been a huge blessing for us, and we could never imagine life without her. If you want to be a part of Indi’s journey, head over to Instagram and follow @indiandasunset.
