[email protected] A s we were going through the publishing process for this edition, I was driving our small publishing team crazy. We always work hard on coming up with creative, fun and informative stories about the islands we serve. And although my focus is on the entire process, I had a keen interest in our “We Are” and “We Were” features for this publication. Of course, we enjoy bringing our readers these feature articles showcasing the pillars of our island communities – but there was something special about this edition. Many Isle of Palms residents probably still remember Leola Hanbury – her love for the island was legendary. She was like the Isle of Palms private historian. One of her close island friends stored many of her personal belongings, among them Leola’s Isle of Palms archives. It was from these island treasures that I was able to share with Isle of Palms Magazine writer Anne Toole the oral histories of the life and times of past island residents. As we both read these personal tales, Anne and I couldn’t believe the rich, detailed descriptions we were digesting within our minds. They offered descriptive details of their day-to-day lives on the island – times no one today would know. I’m sure after reading Anne’s article, you will see why my interests were focused on “We Are Isle of Palms” and “We Were Isle of Palms.” Flipping over to Sullivan’s Island Magazine , the old Sullivan’s Island golf course article was just as compelling to me. No one believed me when I kept telling people there was a golf course on Sullivan’s Island. I asked a dozen or more people if they knew that there had been a course on the island. Nearly everyone said something along the lines of: “No way, there’s never been a golf course on Sullivan’s Island!” But thanks to writer John Torsiello [ From the Publisher ] Subscribe to the Island Magazines • www.SullivansIslandMagazine.com/s/subscribe To be included in these online directories, distribution info or advertising in the Island Magazines:
