Beachside Vacation Lifestyle 2019-20
www.beachsidevacations.com | 29 ild Dunes Resort is a place to relax, golf, swim, play tennis, work out and actually do just about anything fun you can think of at one of the Charleston area’s most special enclaves – Isle of Palms. Staying in a vacation rental home that offers the Wild Dunes Resort Sports Card opens the door to many of these private facilities. The Wild Dunes Resort Sports Card provides guests access to select resort amenities and activities while on the property. Wild Dunes has become famous for its two Tom Fazio de- signed layouts: the Links Course and the Harbor Course, which offer 36 holes of championship golf and unique, thoughtful contrast to each other. A Sports Card is not required to enjoy the challenge of playing golf at Wild Dunes; the courses are open to the public. One of Fazio’s first courses, the par-72 Links Course captures the natural beauty of Wild Dunes Resort, with rolling fairways framed by lush palms and finishing holes overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The par-70 Harbor Course is shorter than its sister track and features various water views, from lagoons to saltwater marshes to the Intracoastal Waterway. A lot of courses claim to be “links” in nature, but the Links Course at Wild Dunes lives up to its billing, especially toward the end of the round, when you encounter two of the best finishing holes in the area. The 17th and 18th holes both play along the Atlantic Ocean, not far from the beach. The 17th, which measures 405 yards, with dunes and the Atlantic to the left and out-of-bounds to the right, is a no-nonsense par 4 that requires two solid shots. The Harbor Course has a pleasingly eclectic mix of holes and features water and bunkers aplenty. The 9th and 10th holes play along the Intracoastal Waterway. The 9th is a demanding 564-yarder that, when played downwind, is reachable in two for the big hitters. Right center tee shots set up the best angle. Sand and waste areas play as rough and are not as penalizing as they appear. Practice facilities are located across from the Links Clubhouse and include a driving range, a chipping area and a putting green. Meet up with golf friends for a meal or beverage follow- ing play in the Links Clubhouse with lunch or a snack available at Huey’s Southern Eats. A Sports Card is required to access the extensive tennis facility, including 17 Har-Tru courts, a number of them lighted for night play. Wild Dunes has skilled tennis professionals who offer instruction for beginners and experts alike, with sessions ranging from private lessons to tennis schools. Tennis court fees are required. In addition to the 14 individual communities within Wild Dunes Resort that feature swimming pools for residents and guests to enjoy, Wild Dunes Resort has a central Swim Center that offers a heated (seasonal) lap pool. All guests staying in a property that features a Wild Dunes Sports Card have complimentary access to the Swim Center. In addition, the Sports Card allows guests to visit the Palm Cove Pool and the Boardwalk Inn Pool after 4 p.m. A Sports Card is required to access the Fitness Center at Wild Dunes Resort. Daily fees are required, with multiple day passes available. ANYTHING Fun YOU CAN THINK OF W
