For Sara and Connor Mulhall, vacationing on the Isle of Palms is a longtime family affair. Sara explained, “My parents have been coming to Charleston for close to 20 years, which is why they moved here almost 10 years ago. My son Connor and I have been coming to the island with them for going on 15 years. Prior to their move, we stayed in Wild Dunes, which was so nice! Now we stay with them in their house in Mount Pleasant.”
The Mulhalls live just outside of Washington, D.C., and make the trip to the Isle of Palms at least once a year. Their Australian shepherd, Dakota, makes the trip as well. Sara continued, “We love to bring our dog to the beach, and the Isle of Palms is such a welcoming, dog-friendly atmosphere. It is our favorite thing to do while we are here, of course! Our family has a pool, so we enjoy spending time at the pool as well as the beach, and we love to sit and people watch. My dad, stepmom, brother, son and I have enjoyed going on boat trips for the day over the years and just spending the day out on the water. We spend a lot of time going out to local restaurants – my son’s favorite is probably Coconut Joe’s. We love to try new restaurants too.”
With an infectious smile and happiness that feels contagious, Sara described one of her favorite vacation activities: “We particularly like to visit the South Carolina Aquarium in downtown Charleston. The island is so close to so many wonderful venues. The aquarium is at the top of our list of ‘must do’ attractions.”
Sara and Connor prefer to frequent the beach during off-leash hours so Dakota can run freely and enjoy time in the ocean and tidal pools without a leash. “Everyone is so friendly and nice here. Even the dogs!” Maybe even especially the dogs. We look forward to seeing you next summer, Mulhall family.
