Time well spent with the Wilkins

Janine Wilkins and her husband Scott, along with their children Cameron and Caroline and Caroline’s fiancé Peter Scibilia, journeyed to the Isle of Palms all the way from Boston, Massachusetts, for a late summer vacation.

Janine recalled having always heard that the Isle of Palms is a gorgeous place. After Caroline and Peter returned from vacationing on the island with the Scibilia family and raved about the experience, the Wilkins decided to spend their family vacation relaxing on the Isle of Palms – with no agenda and no major itinerary to follow. Peter’s parents, longtime friends of the Wilkins, helped guide them through the planning of their island adventure.

Janine described some of her family’s favorite activities. “We loved the beach; particularly how quiet it was this time of year. We collected so many oyster shells. At least I think they are oysters! So different and beautiful. We spent an afternoon at Saltwater Cowboys and enjoyed watching dolphins swim right by the restaurant.”

The Wilkins party of five enjoyed rooftop dining and exploring downtown Charleston and Sullivan’s Island as well as a round of golf at Charleston National Golf Club in Mount Pleasant. Janine continued, “We had a great time at Islander 71 listening to the DJ and watching the little kids dance. The highlight of our trip, as all five of us would say, was an afternoon on the water in a pontoon boat that we rented. The weather was perfect. The scenery was fabulous. We anchored at a little beach on Capers Island and enjoyed a charcuterie board and cocktails. We loved looking at all of the beautiful waterfront homes as we were cruising around. Just stunning!”

Janine added, “We absolutely loved the barbecue we had at Harris Teeter. They were set up outside the store on Sunday afternoon cooking. We brought it home for dinner. It was delicious and the people there were so nice! On our last night we went to The Windjammer to see a few concerts. The views there were stunning, and it was a great way to close out the week.”

With a busy and happily hectic summer planning next year’s wedding for Caroline and Peter at a small winery in Narragansett, Rhode Island, a brief respite was just what this delightful family needed. Janine explained, “Rest, relaxation, no schedule to follow, nice weather and enjoying each other’s company. To be able to spend a whole week with our children and Peter was a gift I will always cherish.”

With plans to combine their family vacations next year, the Wilkins and Scibilia families hope to have started a new family tradition.
