IOP Connector Run set to make strides for child abuse prevention

Web banner advertisting the 2026 Isle of Palms Run and Walk for the Child. This is an invitation to come run/walk the 10K or 5K IOP Connector Run on Oct. 4. The race is to provide funds to 10 child abuse prevention agencies in the Tri-County area.

Last year, through registering 1,800 runners and generous sponsors, the Isle of Palms Exchange Club (Con-nector Run Board) raised $135,000 to be given out at their October 2024 Member Dinner Meeting. Fundraising for this year’s race has already eclipsed $100K, according to Deb Barr, Sponsorship Co-Chair & Child Abuse Prevention Liaison.

The IOP Connector Board members, led by Chair Michele Priest and Barr, the Exchange Program of Service Chair – has shown an extreme dedication to the race that’s now in its 34th year. This is a collaboration with Isle of Palms Exchange Club and the cities of Isle of Palms and Mount Pleasant, their recreational departments, IOP and Mount Pleasant police departments and IOP Fire Department. It truly does take “villages” to make this memorable, well organized and sanctioned 10K and 5K run a successful race.

In 2024, the event was truly an international and broad U.S.-based race composed of 1,801 registered runners for the race. For this year’s race, the IOP Connector Board’s goal is to raise $150,000 for distribution to 10 child abuse prevention agencies. The board has been busy planning practically just after the race last year to make it a successful and memorable experience for all.

Do not miss this chance to run for an important cause while experiencing the majestic views of the Lowcountry marsh lands while running over the IOP Connector. Bring your family, friends or neighbors to experience this once-a-year treat for runners/walkers of all ages.
