8 www.IsleOfPalmsMagazine.com | www.ILoveIOP.com | www.IOPmag.com W hen you’re headed to the beach for some fun in the sun, a few questions may run through your mind, such as: “How am I going to get my wagonload of beach towels, sunscreen, beach umbrellas and coolers down to the sand and back?” And “What will I do if I have to use the restroom while I’m working on my tan?” The Isle of Palms City Council knew that the boardwalk leading from the business district to Front Beach was deteriorating and that the men’s and women’s restroom facilities were clammy and unpleasant. Council members and IOP Director of Building, Planning and Zoning Douglas Kerr understood that upgrading these essential components would be costly – with a price tag of more than $500,000. They decided to go ahead anyway.
